ONE Ghana national development plan whose name I found very “sweet” was PAMSCAD – I was told the acronym stood for ‘Programme of Action to Mitigate the Social Cost of Adjustment’ and the agenda was to put in place measures to make the cost of living more bearable for Ghanaians.
There was also ERP; the Economic Recovery Programme, which was also largely aimed at getting our ‘lost’ economy back on track.
Then came HIPC; the Highly Indebted Poor Country intervention under which we were told much of our debts to foreign countries had been forgiven, which meant that we had been given the opportunity to spend relatively less of our money on debt servicing and were expected to expend more on national development.
Lest I forget, there is also the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS) and, now the “Better Ghana Agenda”. So you see; when it comes to putting pen to paper to churn out fine development documents and standing in public to deliver beautiful speeches characterised by l-o-o-o-o-n-g GRAMMAR, our leaders do very well.
However, after the creative development documents have been crafted and the fine speeches delivered, SOME OF US put on our partisan political garbs and waste all the time ‘out-shouting’ each other to make our unproductive voices heard so that the unfortunate and unlettered electorate will believe that shouting about is all political thatleadership is about.
Now, let us bow down our heads and pray for leaders in all spheres of national life, who genuinely have the development of his nation at heart, to move beyond shouting and begin to work to make life a bit more comfortable for us, the ordinary people of this country, for SOME OF US are suffering.
Let us pray: Dear Lord, our Heavenly Father, we come to you this day with our hearts full of praise for your mercies, for without that we, the ordinary people of this country, would have been killed by selfish leaders who promise everything but give us nothing when we give them the mandate to lead us.
Father, some of our leaders are disturbing us with noise and insults on the airwaves, and we humbly ask that you shut them up for us. Again, anybody, who is in a leadership position because he or she wants to fill his/her pocket with our HIPC money; Lord show your might and expose them in the MIGHTY NAME of Jesus.
Oooh, yes, Father....oooh, yes, Father, yes Daddy...show them that they cannot steal from the poor. Let them know that you love Ghana and that anyone who does anything contrary to your divine plan for this country will be punished severely.
Lord, we bring all genuine leaders before you this day; bless them and give them the wisdom to churn out innovative ways to save this lovely country from the claws of poverty, immorality and all things that will not augur well for the development of this beautiful country. Thank you Father, in Jesus name! A-a-a-a-a-m-m-e-e-n!
Betty can’t mould good cases for court?
THE Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Ghana, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu has come under wild fire for losing too many cases. In the latest case, the Accra Fast Track High Court discharged Mr Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, the former Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Ghana@50 celebrations, and Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana@50 Secretariat, who were being tried for causing financial loss to the state.
Before this, the Attorney General had lost other cases involving the former Foreign Minister, Mr Osei Adjei; the wife of the former Tourism Minister, Zuleika Lowia, and NPP activist, Grace Omaboe, all of which were considered high profile cases that some people in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) wanted the Attorney General to win to show Ghanaians that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government was corrupt.
As soon as the high court’s verdict reached the media, some of our leaders went on air with their partisan political garbs and began to shout and shout and shout. Aaaba! Why?
Auntie Betty please don’t mind them, ok! Do they think moulding good cases for court is easy? Aaah, ‘ahoofe’, we will pray for you so that at least you can win one case before you resign or the President fires you from office!
But, Auntie Betty, you too why; why have you lost so many cases, eh why? Do you want people to laugh at the NDC or what? Ei, jack, Attorney General under the NDC is not easy at all! It’s hard papa. Even one single case is not easy to win.
Nana Akufo-Addo please why call the Prez, Professor Do-Little?
THE newly crowned presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo was reported to have referred to the President, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills as Professor Do-Little. Oh, Nana why? Why did you do that? Don’t you know that the Professor is Doing Much?
He has brought down inflation drastically to a SINGLE digit plus a little fraction. He is gradually lowering the pressure from the NDC foot soldiers drastically by rolling out a national youth policy that will take care of their soldiering needs. Indeed the Professor is ‘Doing some things’ so please, Nana don’t call him Do-Little. I beg you, ok. Any way congrats on your victory but please slow down the SLANGS small; you know!
